CLAUDIA LARCHER

Born 1979 in Bregenz, Austria. Lives and works in Vienna, Austria. Studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
Claudia Larcher’s starting points are photographs that she then uses to make collages, photomontages, video animations as well as objects.
Most of her works are concerned with spaces defined by architectural elements or urban development, in which people are, to some extent, constrained with respect to how they can move about in them and how they experience them. Personal memories and associations evoked by the place in question also play a crucial role in her work. Via the merging of different photographs, her portrayals are suspended somewhere between reality and fiction.
For INSIGHTS, Claudia Larcher visited various wienerberger plants in the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy, primarily to examine and document the clay pits located at the respective sites. Each place gave rise to a double portrait: one being a depiction of the landscape itself created by combining numerous individual shots, with the other comprising a collection of samples of the local vegetation.
