BJARNE BARE

Born in 1985 in Poznán, Poland. Lives and works in Los Angeles, USA, and Oslo, Norway. Studied at the Academy of Fine Art, Oslo, and the UCLA – University of California, Los Angeles.
Bjarne Bare is a Norwegian artist and photographer who lives and works in Los Angeles and Oslo. In many of his photographic works, Bare focuses on simple commonplace objects or random arrangements of patterns, structures and objects found in public spaces. Through strictly selected camera frames in a recurring window-like vertical format, carefully composed into large-format tableaux, he suddenly lends seemingly trivial things and objects unexpected meanings.
The works created for INSIGHTS were shot in Stathelle, a small town on the southern coast of Norway, which is home to a large Pipelife pipe manufacturing facility. The PE (polyethylene) pipes produced there can have a diameter of up to 250 centimetres and a length of up to several hundred metres. In their immediateness, Bjarne Bare’s photographs hint at the size, integral structure and special materiality of these oversized pipes.
