JULIE BOSERUP

Julie Boserup © Søren Rønholdt

Born in 1976 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. Studied at the Chelsea College of Art, London.

The Danish artist Julie Boserup is interested primarily in architecture and urbanism. In her works, she combines historical and contemporary, her own and found photographs of a specific building or cityscape into mosaic-like views. As a result, not only can a temporal development be discerned in one and the same image, Boserup also reveals special qualities or deficits of a particular building or architectural situation.

Within the framework of INSIGHTS, Julie Boserup focused on modernist Danish architecture, which is strongly marked by the use of bricks as an element that lends both form and structure. She interweaves historical photographs of buildings, which to this day correspond to the collective idea of typical Nordic architecture, with contemporary photographs of archetypal Danish landscapes. Through the use of folds and bends, she restores a third dimension to the two-dimensional representations of the buildings, while at the same time playing with the notion that the use of bricks inevitably leads to rigid, flat structures.
