Taiyo Onorato was born 1979 in Zurich, Switzerland. Lives and works in Berlin, Germany, and Bovec, Slovenia. Studied at the Zurich University of the Arts.

Nico Krebs was born in 1979 in Winterthur, Switzerland. Lives and works in Berlin, Germany, and Vyhne, Slovakia. Studied at the Zurich University of the Arts.

The Swiss artists Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs use several media, combining photography, film and installation to create works that appear easy and effortless, but at the same time are full of irritation, irony and complex levels of meaning. Experimentation and improvisation become artistic strategies; real matter, forms and constructions are altered by sabotage-like interventions or fictional additions, natural processes are stopped and redirected, with the result remaining unpredictable.

For INSIGHTS, the artist duo travelled several times to wienerberger factories in Slovakia and in Slovenia, where they had the opportunity to intervene in the production process of a brick, thus transforming a machine-made, standardized mass product into individual, handmade forms. The photographs document the experiments conducted on site, while the montages carried out in a second step play with viewers’ perception.
