MARLON DE AZAMBUJA

Born in Brazil in 1978. Lives and works in Madrid, Spain.Studied at the Edilson Viriato Center for Contemporary Art in Curitiba, Brazil.

Marlon de Azambuja is a Brazilian artist who now lives and works in Madrid. He uses a wide variety of media for his work; in addition to photography, video, drawing and sculpture, installations and interventions in the public space play a central role in his oeuvre. These installations are created through simple but effective interventions using everyday materials. In one of his current series Potencial Escultórico (Sculptural Potential), he uses colored adhesive tape to wrap urban furniture. On the one hand, this renders the furniture temporarily unusable; on the other hand, de Azambuja’s emphasis of forms and contours draws attention to structures which are often overlooked. Municipal authorities, urban planners and architects not only define the appearance of a city, they also dictate our behavior in the public space.

Within the framework of INSIGHTS, Marlon de Azambuja continued his series in Vienna, where he chose locations around or in the vicinity of the Vienna Ringstrasse, the structure and appearance of which bears the mark of products by wienerberger.
