TATIANA LECOMTE

Born 1971 in Bordeaux, France. Lives and works in Vienna, Austria. Studied at the École des Beaux-Arts, Lyon, the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam.
Tatiana Lecomte is primarily interested in the history of the twentieth century and the use of photography to capture, represent and document events and social developments.
Of particular importance in her work is the examination of fascism and the crimes committed during the Third Reich. For her works, she increasingly makes use of found photographs and archive materials from corresponding periods, which she places in relation to one another.
For INSIGHTS, Tatiana Lecomte focused intensively on the area around the Wienerberg, where, already 150 years ago, bricks were industrially manufactured and where the company’s headquarters are still located today. Her seven-part series begins with images from the nineteenth century. Layer by layer, more recent images successively overlap the older images and blur the traces of the past, culminating in a final work in which current images of the Wienerberg almost completely cover all earlier layers. Nevertheless, as in the landscape itself, traces of the past are still discernible.
