INKA & NICLAS LINDERGÅRD

Inka was born 1985 in Finland and Niclas was born 1984 in Sweden. They live and work in Stockholm, Sweden.

Inka and Niclas Lindergård are an award-winning artist duo whose central theme revolves around the tension between nature and cultural perception. Their photographic works and objects explore how we view, interpret, and even stage landscapes.

In their meticulously arranged works, the boundaries between documentation and artificiality blur. Natural landscapes, often altered by pastel, artificial coloration, transform into surreal, almost dreamlike worlds. This invites viewers to question and rediscover their conditioned perception of nature.

In their works created for INSIGHTS in 2023 at the pipe factory of wienerberger subsidiary Pipelife in Stathelle, Sweden, the interplay between reality and fiction is once again at the forefront. Sculptural objects are embedded in natural, mystical landscapes. These biomorphic objects originated as failed, melted plastic pipes, collected beside the production machine to be melted down again in the subsequent recycling process. Three of these three-dimensional sculptures were declared art pieces by the artist duo through a curatorial process and were re-staged in the nearby nature.

In their altered environment—dark water and a misty, mystical atmosphere typical for the season in the north—the objects transform into organic lifeforms.

The title of the work refers not only to a pipe produced by Pipelife called Viper 3 but also describes the new species created by the artist duo: "Viper Slugs."
